As part of my recent study leave, I prayerfully considered what areas of focus I might emphasize for myself and our staff in 2018 as we pursue our mission of “being and making authentic followers of Jesus Christ.” Over the next few weeks, I’ll be sharing a blog of each of these themes.
Global missions is a significant part of our ministry at Calvary, just as we seek to minister to our Calvary families and our local community. But as individuals we have a call from Christ to reach out beyond ourselves.
Often it is easy to be preoccupied with our own lives, our own families, caught up in our own daily affairs. Who are the “forgotten” people in your life? The people you may only briefly meet or those who you may quickly disregard or take for granted. Every day and with every interaction we have an opportunity to reach outside of our bubble and make an impact.
“When [Jesus] saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd” (Matthew 9:36). How often do we have compassion for those around us?
Think of how many lost people are all around us. True, we can’t reach every person, every student, every senior, every family, but we can reach some. This year, reach out beyond yourself and make an impact for Christ.
